AM-2201 is a potent, non-selective synthetic cannabinoid of the aminoalkylindole type which acts as a full agonist at cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2 (EC₅₀ = 38 nM and 58 nM, respectively)1. AM-2201 metabolites are also recognised to be full agonists₁. Binding to the cannabinoid receptors triggers a reduction of intracellular cAMP levels by inhibiting adenylate cyclase₂. In vitro studies have shown 41 and 18 times more affinity for CB1 and CB2 receptors, respectively, when compared to Δ₉-THC and revealed dosage-dependent cytotoxicity and chromosomal aberrations in primary cell lines₃. Studies on experimental mice models showed bradycardia, hypothermia, and catalepsy_1.
